Who we really are
Sure Foundation Educational Centre (SFEC) caters to children with learning disabilities and behavioural disorders at the secondary level.
At our core, we are a non-profit Christian organization, under the conviction that every child has the capacity to learn and should be given the opportunity to do so. We seek to provide education for children and young people with learning difficulties in a warm and friendly atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Often, these disabilities are accompanied by severe behavioral disorders. If these children are not given appropriate intervention, we run the risk of having them recruited into becoming non-productive citizens.
The founder and CEO of the Sure Foundation Educational Centre is Dr. Clara M. Ricketts. With over 45 years as an innovator and principal for special schools, throughout her career Dr. Ricketts has worked with children with behavior disorders and in the process has developed strategies to cope and bring positive results.

Small Classes
or individual attention is given
Students are admitted to the school following a psycho-educational assessment verifying that the student is in need of special education of the kind that the school offers. Guided by this assessment, an Individual Educational Plan is prepared for that student with objectives in the cognitive, and psychosocial domains.
The student is then taught individually or in small groups of 5-8, and his progress is measured against his starting point. The academic program is accompanied by a behavior management program based on a consistent system of rewards and consequences, and supported by individual and group counselling.
Values and attitudes are instilled through daily devotions and a curriculum for personal development.
Our Foundation
Sure Foundation Educational Centre is built upon our Core Focus Areas…
Sure Foundation Spiritually
The school is driven by a strong spiritual foundation focusing on the basic skill of relationship.
Sure Foundation Academically
We meet the children where they are in the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic, then establish a firm foundation in preparation for their next stage of education.
Beyond the School Doors
The strategies applied by the school and their subsequent effectiveness are shared with parents and other educators through the publication of a book by the founder and CEO.
The book also posits collaboration among home, school, church, community, and government in order to bring out the best in our children with special needs.

A personal need for me…
The seed for Sure Foundation Educational Centre was sown when I, the CEO/founder, discovered that there was no place in the school system for my son who had been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) with a learning disability, and the school which he had been attending simply labelled him as ‘bad boy’, and treated him as such. I, being a special educator for several years, made a vow then to start a school for children with such needs.
Like my son, many children were being left behind because they have a disability that was undetected. Children with Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity form a significant percentage of our school population. This condition is characterized by distractibility, impulsivity and inattentiveness, which usually manifests itself in what is perceived as poor behavior. It falls in the category of invisible disabilities, and is ten times more common in boys than in girls.
Standards-based and with national partners
We operate in partnership with the Special Education Unit of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information. Also the core programme of the school is guided by the National Standards Curriculum (NSC) with appropriate modifications to meet the special needs of the students. The students who can, are reintegrated into the mainstream through the GNAT examination. Other students are introduced to skills training in partnership with the HEART Trust/NTA.
